"We use magic as a weapon. As long as you can defend yourself, you stand a chance at pleasing Davian, though, to be honest, you might have a bit of competition in the whole 'blowing up' game. We have someone who blows stuff up. His name is Simeon, and he's creepy. Is that who you're looking for?"

"Simeon? Never heard of him, but if he blows things up too, then I'll see him as a friendly roval, then," Nina chuckled, not realizing that she was talking about a dead man being her rival. "No, the friend I'm looking for is a female, but I don't know if she's with you. I just have to check."
If she joined you guys... aww man. I'd feel compelled to join, and I'm a little creeped out.
"So... did you injure yourself?"

She noticed...
"Oh, I was... being robbed, so I just... killed the guy. Yeah. It wasn't difficult. Well, no not robbed. I think he was trying to rape me. Yeah... So, I went in and pulled out his heart." Lilliana answered, laughing nervously.
Robbed? That's so dumb! What do I have with me? Nothing, that's what. This girl doesn't need to know what I do.
"So, just follow me, I'll take you to the base."
Aero will figure out that I'm not in town sooner or later...

Sure. I really don't believe her... as much as it sounds true, I just don't think she's honest. But what do I know?
"Well... uh... that sucks. I hope he's really dead, becuase we don't need people like that," Nina told Lilliana, struggling to think of anything to say. "And... thanks. You just lead the way and I'll be right behind you."
About five feet.

"I'm certain he's dead. I pulled his heart out, after all!"
Lilliana laughed, despite knowing that it was incredibly awkward moment. Spotting Aero scampering around several feet away, she grunted, letting him know she was alive.
The walk back to camp was a fairly awkward one. Lilliana didn't speak much, but entered the building comfortably.
"Guys! I'm back, and I've got company! Where are you guys?"

Aero was frantically searching for Lilliana. He even searched the dark alleyways where he knew she would hang out at.
"Where is that woman?" he exclaimed. Just about then Aero ran right past Lilliana. He didn't notice her. He continued running around searching.
"I need to look higher up." Aero inhaled deeply, filling his legs with air. He then jumped and shot up into the air like a cork. Air came streaming out of his legs are he flew onto a wall. Landing his hands and feet on it, he shot off the wall and continued to bounce off walls until he reached the top of the building.
Landing gracefully, he looked around the town.
"Oh, there she is." Aero spotted Lilliana leaving town already. With someone else. He shrugged. Lilliana always attracted weird people. Aero started jumping from roof to roof back towards the Midland base.

Davian was the first to arrive back at the base with the speed of the horses. With the travel between the castle and their base, he had the time to think about just what in the hell Hawley was up to. Four items, magic, a heavy feeling in the air, and a clear need to be unseen and unknown. With his limited magical knowledge, he could only figure it was some sort of spell. Maybe Tekrias or Lilliana would be able to explain.
Unfortunately, with the threat of a dark magical attack deep within the Solarian castle, Davian had little spare time to mourn the loss of his dear friend.
He tethered the horses back in the woods where they belonged and entered the base with Simeon's gear and the money slung over his shoulder. He trudged up the stairs and quickly remembered the girl he and...he and Simeon put away. Papillon? Yeah, that was it. Davian opened the door and dropped the money on the table in the main room, Simeon's gear beside it. He sat for a moment, head in his hands, and spared a minute for his friend.
"Simeon...you won't have died in vain. You were right, this is something big. I...I just don't know what it could be. Hawley clearly didn't want anyone to know about it."
...
"He killed you for it."
"We'll stop him, Simeon. The Elite will stop him. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. Cliche, sure, but true."
Davian considering making a gravesite for him, but realized this wouldn't be the place. No doubt Hawley has sent guardsmen after him. They would have to move soon.
Which means he'd have to deal with Papillon somehow. He could release her, kill her, or take her with them. Then he wondered if she was still even here. Wasn't Tekrias staying on guard duty?
"Tekrias? Do we still have a prisoner?"

Tekrias nodded to Davian in acknowledgement of his arrival. He noticed that Simeon wasn't with their leader. Tekrias mourned for him for a moment, wishing Simeon luck on the uncertain path. Somewhere deep inside he knew that Simeon's death had to have been noble and of course, flashy.
"Yes, sir... not much disturbances from within.."

During the whole while, Papillon was in her small cell... Sitting as though she was at the beach. Back against the wall, hands behind her head. She could have easily broken out of her prison, especially since there was only one person guarding, but she opted to staying inside. She waited, musing about what could happen next.

"Thank you, Tekrias. Do me a favor? Lilliana and Aero should be on their way back. Keep an eye open for them." He added in a whisper, "Be ready to leave soon. We might not be here much longer."
Davian stepped heavily back to Papillon's cell, obviously stressed. He needed to settle some business with the girl.
"Hello again. Enjoying the cell?"

Looks like the boss is back, Papillon thought, observing Davian. Something wasn't right, and Papillon immediately noticed it. He seemed tired, stressed... something occupied his mind. He was rather different than when she first met him on the battlefield. She wondered what happened, but didn't take her questioning any further; she wasn't in any position to ask him anything personal.
"You could say so, yes", the famed treasure huntress simply answered, with a smile adorning her face.

"Well, that's nice. If word got out that the Midland Elite were being inhospitable, I'm sure we'd lose a fair number of contracts."
Davian was glad he could talk sarcasm. It distracted him from Simeon. But even thinking that made his gaze drop for a moment. He shook it off. There would be a time to mourn fully. But now, he needed to deal with Papillon. He forced a smile and spoke, angry, yet calm, with a powerful amount of sarcasm.
"You see, shit went down back at the castle. As you have probably already noticed, my buddy isn't here. That's because the poor bastard's dead. We saw something that was apparently need-to-know only and I only barely made it out of there with my head. Call it a hunch, but with you showing up and helping us out of the blue, I can't help but think you're related to this shit somehow. Deep in Castle Solaris, some sort of dark magic with fancy trinkets is happening right as a mysterious treasure huntress appears. See the connection?"
Davian paused. He almost lost it. He took some deep breaths, regained his composure, and spoke again.
"I'm willing to make a deal. If you are connected to this, I'll release you in exchange for information. But, if you don't, I'll leave you here. They've sent soldiers after me and my friends. I'll let them know somehow you were a prisoner who deserved to be killed. Or, better yet. I'll kill you myself."
Davian paused again. His head was clearing up a bit...and he realized his plan was stupid. He had no way of trusting her. And he couldn't afford to take risks now.
"You know..." he chuckled lightly. "Forget it. Forget I said a goddamn thing. I can't trust you worth the dirt on my boots."
He leaned against the back wall, breathing heavily. He needed to control himself. And his team needed to get back.

As soon as she learnt of Simeon's death, Papillon's smile disappeared, and her expression became serious. From the way he was reacting, she guessed he was pretty close to Davian. A struggle was probably going on inside his head. While she never experienced it herself, she could guess just how hard it is. She got up, and stood right in front of the cell's door, her arms crossed.
"Think what you will, I won't try to convince you", Papillon said in a serene voice, "You won't believe me, anyway. I will say one thing in my defense, though: I was only helping myself. I simply wanted to cross the border. Oh, and I honestly don't see the connection between what you saw and my appearance."
She looked straight into Davian's eyes, her own eyes inscrutable. She continued with the same calm voice, "One last thing: even if you do ask me to join you, I have absolutely no reason to trust you."

"Tch, why would you? After all, I threw you in jail."
Well, Simeon and I threw you in jail.
...
Dammit. Can't stop talking. It'll bring my thoughts back.
"You, "just wanted to cross the border"? OK. You crossed it, clearly. What did you plan on doing?"
Ultimately, it didn't matter. Davian just needed a better handle on Papillon. He needed to distract himself.
"Get a tip for some big loot somewhere, eh? Cross the border, my ass. You have a reason. I want to know it."
He stared right back at Papillon. Her eyes were...interesting. Soft, light, yet determined and fierce. Clearly fierce. His thoughts raced. What was going on here?

Papillon's eyebrow was raised, wondering why Davian was questioning her so intently. He was probably trying to figure her out. As she stared at him, her brown eyes looking into his blue ones, she noticed that, for some reason, she couldn't take them off.
"You don't need to ask", she retorted, gracefully putting a strand of hair back in place, "I'm a treasure huntress. I'm hunting for treasure. What else would I be doing?"

Davian sighed heavily. He figured she wouldn't say anything. Though he couldn't really prove she knew anything either.
"Well, whatever. I still don't what I'm going to do with you, but by the time my team arrives, I'll have thought something up."
Davian walked back to the main room. He rested, trying to distract himself with crazy ideas of what Hawley was up to. He wanted to ask Tekrias about Hawley's spell, but with the unknown variable of time at hand, he decided to wait until they were safe. As he looked out the window, he thought he saw a dust cloud from galloping horses. But really, he couldn't tell. His mind was too foggy. He just knew one thing: they need to move.

Lilliana walked though the door, making a grand entrance.
"Someone here is looking for someone, I don't know!"
The child whispered suddenly in a hushed voice, "Best of luck."
Creepy hair...
Ignoring the girl, she rushed to her closest friend. Tina.
Tina sat adamant in front of the bedroom doors. Saying nothing. She was a vegetable that they had found outside.
"How was your day Tina?"
Tina sensed that there was sadness in the air. Not from the girl, but from everyone else in the building. She'd have gone to comfort the others, but didn't, as she was a blind, deaf, mute, bald, albino vegetable.

"Lilli, who the hell is this? And where's Aero? We don't have time for this."

Tekrias saluted the group leader and wandered off to his room in the top level of the fort. He knew that Simeon's absence and obvious death meant that danger was coming. He didn't have much in his room, just his bed and a few changes of clothes. Tekrias took a few things here and there and put them in a pack, and then leaving it on a hook in the fort hallways.
He noticed the new girl that had come with Lilliana. She seemed more innocent than hostile. Tekrias would just have to wait for her story to unfold.

Lilliana held the soap, surprised, then playing off an accepting gratitude. "Thank you! All the... other stores... they were so expensive!"
She sucks at lying.
"...So, what's with all the commotion? Do you guys like the new girl? She seems pretty experienced. I don't know, maybe it's the hair..." she finished, not paying attention to the situation, but turning to Tina once again.
I don't know what the commotion is all about, but I'll figure it out sooner or later...

OOC: Larua's new, Griff. XD But I like it!
Nina was just slightly intimidated by Davian standing there, asking about her like that while he looked as if he were going to kill someone... or as if someone he knew had just died. When she saw people go past and salute to this man, she decided to stand up straight and salute to him, as well. Maybe he would like her more then.
"Hello, sir!" she told him, trying to keep her face monotone instead of doing what she wanted, which was to laugh her head off. "My name is Nina Calitran. I have several years of experience in magic, and I'm good at... breaking things. If you would give me the honour, sir, I would like to join your group."

OOC: XD. It was late.
Davian stood, dumbfounded. Was this a joke? Well...she couldn't have known what happened. Regardless, this wasn't the time.
"Nina, was it? Sorry, but you have horrible timing. Don't take this personally, but I need you to get the hell out of my sight. The Elite have a rather serious problem to deal with."
He paused, turned, and faced his team. "Guys there's no easy way to say this."
...
"Simeon's dead. We saw something at the castle that we apparently weren't supposed to see and Simeon sacrificed himself so I could escape. We will have time to mourn, but that is not now. Right now...damn. Speak of the devil."
Outside, the sound of approaching hoofbeats was unmistakable. These beats, however, he heavier than those of the Tenmau horses. Solarian battlehorses were bred for brute strength. If enough collided with this old fort, it could easily collapse. From a distance, Davian counted about fifty heavy cavalrymen. Even with Simeon, defeating them would be a longshot.
"That's our cue. Elite! Pack up whatever you need and can travel quickly on. We're abandoning this shabby little fort and heading back home. The guards can't make arrests there. Oh, and Lilli, don't forget Tina."
Davian still had his sword, but his armor was sitting in the arms room. He opened it, pulled his splintmail on right over his clothes, grabbed a few of Simeon's knives and slipped them into his boots. He then rushed upstairs and picked up a few bags and stuffed them with chemicals and vials until he could hardly carry them. Lastly, he picked up the sack of money. Lucky he got it. It'd be all they were getting for a long, long time.
He yelled for his team to move faster. He'd forgotten about Papillon, though. No matter. She wasn't Elite. She wasn't his concern. The cavalry were moving steadily closer. By the time they were all packed up and outside, the guards would be upon them.
If only we had Simeon...
Anger and sadness built up inside of him as Davian couldn't shake the memory of his dear friend. He had to do something. "Team! Meet outside when you're ready!"
He rushed down the stairs, dropping his bags were he stood. His teeth were clenched with anger and his sword produced a crack of thunder as he pulled in from its sheath. Davian ran forward, standing in-line with the oncoming cavalry. He planted his sword in the ground and it quickly began to fill up with light. With a jerk, and a tremendous yell, he swung his sword in a horizontal arc, emitting wave after wave of thunderous force, knocking a few rows of men off their horses. His anger swelled and he prepared another against his better judgement.

Well, I didn't want to join your stupid group anyway. But you didn't have to be such an ignorant jerk about it.
Nina would remember the name Davian for a long time yet, but that wasn't her point in being here. As the group began to busy itself with preparing for an upcoming battle (which for spite she hoped Davian lost, though she hoped for Lilliana's safety), she moved away quietly, trying to find her way around the base. It wasn't too large, and aside from noticing Tina in a room, Nina hadn't found anything to prove that her friend was in the building.
That was until she reached the holding cells. Nina glanced around for a bit, before finding the one cell with Papillon in it. She went right to the cell bars to peek in, and smiled just a tad when she saw Papillon.
"Hey, do you need some help getting out?"

The commotion stirring within the fort got Papillon very curious, but she didn't do anything. Nor did she need to, as very soon, a very familiar face showed up.
"Well, well, if it isn't miss Calitran. Somehow, I'm not surprised you're here", Papillon said, smirking, "I could have got out on my own, but since you've gone through the trouble to come and get me out, I'll give you the pleasure to do it."
She smiled at Nina, then her expression turned serious. "We better move quick; Solaris is no longer a safe land. Something... dark is going on in this kingdom."
