This thread keeps getting lazier each year. Next year there probably won't even be any text in it.
There were three things I had mentioned in threads on here last year about being potential "biggest disappointment of the year" nominations: 1) Matt winning "Member of the Year" last year 2) Daryl not hosting a writing competition 3) Cetasaurus not solving the imposter/impostor situation
After some careful deliberation, I have decided to go with the first option.
Biggest Disappointment of the Year: Matt winning "Member of the Year" last year
And to prevent another incident this year, I will nominate myself for that category.
Member of the Year: Bitchy Grammar Queen

I thought you would appreciate the lack of restrictions! In some previous years the rules haven't always been appreciated, so I thought it might be funner to nominate in a laid-back environment. I did it all out of how much enjoyment I thought you'd get from the nomination process, not out of laziness ๐ I can't wait to see what Hauskaz and Cetasaurus nominate! I nominate Cetasaurus for member of the year. They really feel like the glue holding this forum together, sometimes. I also nominate ToM for forum of the year. Can any of us say we had more fun at a different forum in 2023? Lastly, for now, I would like to nominate Ceta's month-long nap as nap of the year.

I reread the past rules from 2022 and edited posted did not have their nominations counted. So, both of you technically shouldn't have yours counted if we were following those rules. Matt also edited his post last year too and his nomination was still accepted. Maybe that should actually be the biggest disappointment of the year.

This year does not adhere to rules from any previous year. The only rule in effect is that votes from Ceta, me, Wulfinn, and KI won't be counted.
Your point about Matt's nomination last year is noted though, and has filled me with disappointment in myself.

I'm also incredibly disappointed in Darryl, though for mostly unrelated reasons

Sorry, was asleep. Uhmmm I nominate Bitchy Grammar Queen for record-keeper of the year, Daryl for de facto leader of the year, and matt for buddy of the year. And Hauskaz for afterthought coolest person of the year. And Wulfinn for intermittent updater of the year.

And with that, the ___ of the year nominations are closed!
Winners will be announced and added to the news ticker shortly, after all the votes are tallied.

What a year! With nominations closed and votes tallied, the results are in. Our results are:
Reminder of the Year: Bitchy Grammar Queen for reminding Daryl about making this thread
Laziest Member of the Year: Daryl for not hosting a writing competition, and half-assing this annual tradition
But, wait - there's more! We have a double tie this year.
In the category of Biggest Disappointment of the Year, we have the tie nominations 'Matt winning "Member of the Year" last year' by Bitchy Grammar Queen, and 'Bitchy Grammar Queen nominating "Matt winning "Member of the Year" last year" for Biggest Disappointment of the Year' by Matt. In my opinion, the biggest disappointment here is the failure to properly nest quotes in Matt's nomination ๐
But we have another tie! In the category of Member of the Year, we have the tie nominations "Bitchy Grammar Queen" by Bitchy Grammar Queen, as well as "Cetasaurus" by Matt.
The two winning nominations have been placed in the news ticker. For the tied ones, I will extend voting by one additional week! If the tie has not been broken by then, I will wait longer!
I do wish to clarify that this will not be a repeat of the great "____ of the year nominations!" disaster of 2019. That is to say - if the tie is never broken, the nominations will simply fester until forgotten about, and will cease to have any relevance following next year's nominations.

It's not a new round of voting - the previous round of voting is just being extended. So re-voting is not necessary if you've already voted. I appreciate your enthusiasm, though.

Don't we usually have a nomination round, and then ties are broken by a vote? Or are you doing something different this year? From what I've seen so far, we've only done the nominations and it ended with two ties.
In any case, since you and Cetasaurus don't have your votes count, then either Tyler, Brandon, a new user, or a mysterious returning user who wasn't on the active list for Writing Competition 7 will have to break the tie.

Assuming your memory of previous years' processes is correct, it is something different this year - votes cast during the nomination round have simply carried over. As it turns out, every single nomination this year received only a single vote - from the person who nominated it - and so as of your message, the tally stood at 1-1 for each tie. I vote Cetasaurus for Member of the year, because dinosaurs or something Your vote has been counted, and Cetasaurus is now the current leading entry for the Member of the Year category! Also, my biggest disappointment of the year vote is for โWhen I went to Fire Island, and I didnt end up sleeping with that one guy. You know. The theater one. I didnโt care that the dick was small.โ As this is a nomination, not a vote, it has been disregarded. The nomination phase has already ended.

Assuming your memory of previous years' processes is correct, it is something different this year My memory is correct. See the 2019 thread for an example. You voted for your own nomination after announcing the ties.

I suspected you were probably correct, but I both couldn't remember, and didn't care enough to check a past thread - but didn't want to assert that the system is different this year without either hedging or verifying.

Voting is encouraged, but not mandatory.
You in particular are ineligible to vote, though, because you shamefully did not participate in the mandatory writing competition.

And voting has closed for Member of the Year! Congratulations to Cetasaurus!
Voting will remain opened for Biggest Disappointment of the Year until either at least one week after the next valid vote cast for that category, or until next year's poll renders the decision moot.

Matt's nomination for Biggest Disappointment of the Year should be ineligible because he's nominating something that happened this year (my nomination was made this year for an event that happened last year).
