"Your infantry are surrounded," Yysengrid said, gesturing to the black and white pieces on the Asewingyn board with his long spindly fingers.
Svenasim looked at the circular game board. In the center of the board was a small white figurine in the shape of a man gripping a long pike. The white game piece was indeed surrounded by a menacing group of black pieces wielding sharp curved swords. Svenasim pursed his thin lips thoughtfully. His next move would be a gamble... but yes, it could work.
"There have been times when men have fought and it all seemed hopeless," Svenasim paused as his bony fingers reached for the top of his lonely white piece. "However if even one man keeps hope... " suddenly Svenasim's eyes started to glow a brilliant pure white. A very similar light appeared at the the bottom of the game piece, and slowly worked it's way up until the piece was completely engulfed in it.
Slowly, the light faded away from Svenasim's eyes and the game piece. However, instead of a tiny footmen, the piece had transformed into a fierce looking warrior, holding a long broadsword.
"...a hero emerges."
As soon as Svenasim released the newly formed warrior, it immediately spun itself around, its broadsword a whirlwind of death and cleanly cutting through the surrounding pieces.
"Well played..." Yysengrid said looking down at his cut up game pieces and the aftermath of his opponent's slaughter. "A bit of luck obviously, not knowing if your footmen could withstand all the pressure."
Svenasim chuckled. "You'd be surprised my friend"
"Well this game is over," Yysengrid said standing up with a bit of a slight frown. It was however quickly replaced by with a smile and a mischievous glint in his eye. "I actually have a new game we should try, I think you would enjoy it."
Svenasim arched his eyebrow. Yysengrid was sometimes hard to read, but Svenasim had a pretty good guess what Yysengrid meant by a "new game".
"Are you playing with mortals again?" he asked.
"They used to be mortals..." Yysengrid replied looking at the white warrior piece.
"Then they became heroes and villains. Kings and conquerors. Court bards compose epics about their feats, and their horrible tales are used as stories to frighten little children. It would be wrong to call them mortals! Legends, perhaps would be a more appropriate name."
"Follow me my dear friend, I'll show you what I've been working on".
Svenasim got up from his seat and followed Yysengrid. Yysengrid led Svenasim to the back of the room where there was another table. On the table was what looked like a model version of a coliseum. On closer examination, Svenasim even noticed that there appeared to be a long line of miniature people waiting outside the coliseum. A pair of children were running throughout the line, chasing each other. A couple, possibly man and wife seemed to be arguing over something. The detail was for the spectators was astonishing, even more detailed than Asewingyn game pieces.
Svenasim closed his eyes as he realized what he was looking at. Mortals.
"So what do you call this... game?" Svenasim asked.
Yysengrid glanced at his old friend. "The Tournament." Yysengrid started laughing. His laughter echoed throughout the game room for what seemed like a very long time.
An envelope slowly falls from the sky, flipping on its way down. It drifts towards you, and you catch the mysterious envelope with your fingers. You glance at the front of it and in dark red ink, it surprisingly has your name on it. Something beckons you to open the letter and without hesitation you tear it open. Inside is a single piece of parchment with the words written in the same dark red ink, "You have been summoned."
Suddenly a light surrounds you and you throw your arms up to shield your eyes. Even before the light starts fading away, the first thing you notice is the overwhelming noise of a crowd of people pounding into your ears. You slowly open your eyes and find yourself in a massive arena. Looking around you realize that there must be thousands of people cheering and yelling in the stands. Many wear clothing that is unfamiliar to you, as if they came from another city. As you look more closely, you realize that another city might not even wear clothing like that. You even spot someone with long pointy ears, a single eye in the middle of their forehead, and snake like tongue. Perhaps, as your understanding dawns onto you, there might be people from other worlds.
A man in a white cloak comes up to you. In the center of his chest is a logo that looks like a pair of white glowing eyes. His left hand is clutching a handful of parchment and his right hand is holding a long pointy device that you guess must be for writing.
"Here for the Tournament?" He asks in a no nonsense voice. He thrusts a piece of parchment into your hand. "Here are the rules, make sure you read it carefully. I'll also need your information. Right now."
RULES:
This tournament is different. Your character was chosen by the mysterious people who can summon people from across the universe, so obviously they pick the best of the best of the BEST. Whether they're heroes, villains, kings, tyrants, they have some reason they were chosen. That means some restrictions compared to most tournaments are a lot looser.
1. Godmodding:
Godmodding is actually allowed to a degree, because your character is the best of the best of the BEST. However keep in mind that it is only allowed to a certain degree, so please be reasonable and as with regular godmodding rules, you may NOT control another person's character. Moderators will make sure people aren't being ridiculous with this rule.
2. Banned items:
So other things that are typically banned, such as summoning and flying, WILL be allowed in this tournament. The idea is that if your opponent summons something, you should be able to fight the summon. Things that are banned are things that would not fit in a "fantasy" themed story. Again, be reasonable.
3. One character ONLY.
4. Posting rules:
You have to make a post within 24 hours of your last post (unless your opponent hasn't made one yet). If you do not, your character will either suffer some sort of damage by a moderator. If 48 hours goes by without a post, your character will automatically lose the round and is finished.
If you have a reason where you won't be available for posting, please post in your tourney and let everyone know. And cause we're all friends, the 48 hour rule can be flexible if some sort of emergency happened and you still want to continue the tournament.
5. Moderator:
The moderator has a final say on what happens. No rebuttals. Remember, this is all in good fun. The moderator will also be able to "trigger" certain events. More on this in the Q&A.

A description of spells and abilities: The reason I'm not asking for specific spells is because if you look in things like books, normally the mages don't have moves like "fire blast" or "iceberg drop" or something. Instead I think a description of your spells is more appropriate. "Can conjure fire at will, and change it into different forms including a dragon". Of course, you can still have names for your spells/techniques if you want.
History and accomplishments: Why you're famous. Why there are songs written about you. "SD stood alone in the battle of the Four Kingdoms and single handled destroyed the entire opposing army"

Q&A
Q: But SD! No tournaments ever get finished!
A: This is why there's a one character rule, and a post every 24 hours rule. Also I encourage you to try to set a time when you and your opponent are both online, to hopefully make things go smoother.Besides, it's my turn to make a tournament that fails.
Q: So this tournament is just a bunch of overpowered people, what's special / different about it?
A: So one, it's overpowered people so it should hopefully make AWESOME fight scenes (think movie like).
Two, the moderators are going to have a more active role in the tournament. They will not only moderate the fight, but the environment of the fight might also change. It's what I'm calling a "dynamic" arena. So for example, all of the sudden the moderator might post that a nearby volcano explodes, and lava is rushing towards your characters. Or if your character picks up a certain item, they might gain 1000 exp! they might grow claws or something awesome.
Q: So if my character is super strong, how is that going to be fair for my opponent?
A: For the first two characters who fight, I'll have a longer intro post. It'll explain a little bit that the arena has an "equalizer" of sorts. Basically it'll bring people to the same level. What this means is that say a magic user and a weapons user fight, the magic user won't all of a sudden grow muscles and be able to fight with weapons, but instead that the magic user and the weapons user will be able to fight on par with each other.
Q: SD I hate you.
A: Shut up.
