Hiya, we're going to try out something different, since the writing contests can get a little dry towards the end. The rules of this are going to be different. Every entrant starts with 3 points. Upon the start of round 1, monologues can be sent to me at any time until the round is closed. After the round is closed, the voters will choose who they want to stay, and all voters will have half as many votes as there are monologues. The bottom 3 monologues at the end of a voting phase are deemed "Out" and the writers of them lose a point for each of their monologues that falls in the bottom. If a writer receives 3 Outs, they are eliminated from the competition. If a writer has a monologue in the top 3 and the bottom 3, the monologue in the bottom 3 does not accumulate an Out.
"Why write more than 1 monologue?" As done with the writing competition, we'll be including themes and rules. But this time, we're including genre. The story in first in the round prior decides the Genre. Second place decides the rule. Third place decides the theme. If there is a draw that would force more than 3 people to be in the Top, then the top 2 get their rewards, and the people tying for 3rd get nothing. If 2 people are tying for second, then it will be decided randomly who gets to decide the theme and who decides the rule
"But other than controlling the subjects of the stories, why write more than one?" To write one monologue containing potentially 3 very different aspects can sabotage the intended flow of a piece. The benefits of multiple monologues can be to prevent all three aspects: genre, rule, and theme, from colliding awkwardly. If someone wanted to write a Western piece, and the genre was sci-fi, they can write a Western piece fulfilling the theme and rule, and a Sci-Fi piece, which doesn't need to follow the theme or rule.
All submissions will be anonymous, and if there is any indication of cheating, and believe me, I'm pulling no punches this time, you're out of the competition.
More info to come.
