To what great extent will man take to be known? It is quite a lot as our records have shown.
View Cleopatra; The desire for Rome had consumed her with greed, But soon the man which she used would be well overthrown. And so, as she saw power slip out of her grasp, Her avarice would land her in bed with an asp.
View Custer; A commander who valued none over his pride, And bartered with bullets to steal natives of lives. The battle began as he fired his shot, Yet while he had his men on his side, luck was not.
These lessons could show the cost of living in greed; Should you try to live such a life, you may not succeed. Indeed, living at all may prove as a strife, Should you desire too much, it may cost you your life.

This poem is okay I guess. I thought that I might try some neat rhyme structure around the second paragraph, but stopped giving a fuck almost immediately after I typed up 'overthown.'
I think it's witty enough to qualify as decent.
