Scene 1
(A single room studio apartment. The room is messy, a level that suggests the life of someone busy, or perhaps someone lazy. Either way, clean is not a word that would describe the state the room is in. There is a bed that is disheveled, a desk with folders and books strewn about it. There is also a single lamp just to the side of the rest of the furniture. Enter Cody, a slightly heavyset college kid that is dressed in a manner that suggests the words douchey tool. He is inebriated, drunk or high, we cannot quite tell which. He stumbles into the room, and struggles more then he should to turn the lamp on. Once the light is on, he lets himself fall into his bed. Upon landing he emits a bizarre chuckle.)
Cody: What a night...
(The lamp begins to flicker.)
Cody: Goddamnit! I thought I fixed that stupid lamp!
(He struggles to get up and moves towards the lamp. Just as he gets close to it, it stops flickering. Annoyed, he points the lamp as if to say “I’m watching you,” and turns back towards the bed. The second he moves away from the Lamp it starts to flicker again.)
Cody: Stop flickering! Jesus! I thought I fixed you! I changed the lightbulb, plugged you into a different outlet! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!
(The lamp stops flickering.)
Cody: Thank you.
(He walks back to his bed and lays down. He begins to rummage through the pile of junk next to his bed and pulls out a laptop. The light begins to flicker AGAIN!)
Cody: Really? REALLY? Fine, I’ll go to sleep.
(He throws the expensive laptop to the side, not giving a fuck about if it breaks or not and angrily turns the lamp off. He stomps back into his bed and curls up to go to sleep. The light turns back on.)
Cody: THIS FUCKING LAMP! Do you want to end up in the garbage?
(A high pitched giggle is heard.)
Cody: Who was that?
(M appears by the lamp. She appears to be little girl in a yellow dress.)
Cody: Whoa, where’d the little girl come from?
M: Hello, Cody.
Cody: How the fuck do you know my name?
M: I know everything about you, Cody?
Cody: That’s kinda creepy.
M: You’re creepy.
Cody: You’re the creepy fucking little girl that came out of nowhere. Where’d you come from? Isn’t your mommy looking for you or somthin’?
M: My mommy is DEAD!
(She giggles.)
Cody: Hey that’s not something to be laughing about, is it?
M: You’re silly.
Cody: Thank you?
M: You’re drunk.
Cody: That I am. Or high... I can’t remember which.
M: When you’re drunk to you like to fuck people?
Cody: Whoa, whoa, watch the language. I’m no expert, but I don’t think little girls should be talking like that. Now don’t you have someone to be watching you. Get outta here and close the door behind you.
M: But I don’t want to leave.
Cody: I don’t give a shit. This is my apartment, I pay rent here... Get the fuck out.
M: Fuck is a bad word.
Cody: Doesn’t stop you from using it.
M: You should be punished.
Cody: That’s it, if you’re not gonna walk out, I’m gonna drag you out.
(Cody drunkenly attempts to get up and makes his way over to M. By the time he gets to where she was standing, she has vanished.)
Cody: Hey! Where’d you go?
M: I’m everywhere.
Cody: What does that even mean?
M: Whatever I want it to.
Cody: Would ya stop speakin’ in riddles?
M: I’m not speaking in riddles
Cody: Yes, you are.
M: You’re just dumb.
Cody: Hey! I’m not dumb!
M: What’s the square root of 46?
Cody: I’m too drunk to do math... or am I high?
M: The square root of 46 is 6.78232998
Cody: Who cares.
M: I do.
Cody: No, you don’t.
M: You’re right.
Cody: I am? M: Yeah.
Cody: Cool!
M: SHUT UP!
Cody: You don’t have to be so mean.
M: You don’t have to be so mean.
Cody: What do you, mocking me?
M: No I mean it.
Cody: What?
M: You’re not mean now, but you’re gonna be mean.
Cody: What?
M: Maybe I should teach you a lesson?
Cody: What?
(M appears behind Cody)
M: Do you want to fuck me?
Cody: What? No! You’re a little girl!
M: LIAR!
Cody: What?
M: You will.
Cody: What?
M: Unless you get to know what it’s like.
Cody: What are you talking about?
M: You’re going to look like me! Cody: What?
M: GIVE ME A HUG!
Cody: No! Get away from me you creepy fucking child!
(M jumps onto Cody. The lamp begins to flash again. Finally it stops and shuts off for a minute. Then it turns on. When the light returns we see what appears to be M laying in the middle of the floor. Cody is nowhere to be seen. What appears to be M begins to wake up. She slowly gets up.
M?: Whoa what a weird dream... When did I get so short.
(M? begins to feel herself.)
M?: Since when was I wearing a dress?
(A look of horror fills M?’s eyes. In fact, it actually is not M. It is Cody, turned into M. He rushes to a mirror and looks at himself.)
Cody: What the fuck is going on? What the hell did I take at the party? Shit! I’m a little girl!
(Blackout)

Scene 2:
(Lights up on a skeezy alleyway. A dumpster is the biggest thing around, but despite this obvious location for trash disposal, the entire location is strewn with garbage. Wooden crates of some device also line the walls. There is a mist in the air. Enter The Man. Leans against the dumpster and lights a cigarette. Cody, now with M’s form, stumbles in.)
Cody: Shit! Where am I? How the fuck did I get here? One minute I’m a little girl, and then all of sudden... God damn... I must have taken some weird shit at that party...
(Cody stops as he notices The Man staring at him, a devilish grin on his face.)
The Man: Well what’s someone like you doing in a place like this, in the middle of the night, all by your lonesome.
Cody: I wish I knew... I don’t remember how I got here...
(The Man begins to approach Cody.)
The Man: Well, Why don’t I help you remember?
Cody: Thanks... Well could you tell me where we are exactly?
(At this point The Man is looming over Cody’s now small figure, breathing heavily, looking at Cody like a predator would look at his prey.)
The Man: Who gives a fuck where we are...
(He begins to touch Cody. This skeeves Cody out. He slips from The Man’s grip.)
Cody: Woah, man... I’m... Flattered, but I ain’t gay...
The Man: Who said anything about being gay. I’m into girls... girls like you... now why don’t we take this pretty little dress off.
Cody: Wait, I look like a little girl to you?
The Man: Well when you put it that way, it just sounds naughty.
Cody: Listen, man, this is gonna sound crazy but I ain’t some little girl. I’m a guy, I’m an adult.
The Man: What is that supposed to be a turn on or something? Shut the fuck up and come here.
Cody: No man, get away from me.
The Man: GET THE FUCK OVER HERE AND LET ME FUCK YOU. Or I will kill you.
(The Man takes out a knife.)
Cody: Holy shit dude! That’s intense! What the fuck did I do to you?
The Man: You’re being a cock tease you little bitch.
Cody: What?
The Man: THAT’S IT! COME HERE!
(The Man lunges himself at Cody who is powerless to do anything. He forces himself onto the small frame. M appears, in the form of Cody’s former self. She approaches.)
M: Excuse me, sir, but it looks like you’re molesting that little girl.
Cody: What the fuck? That’s me...
(The Man jumps back.)
The Man: What? No. This uh.... this is my little sister. She ran away from home and she’s been fighting me to come back home.
M: Fucking your little sister? That’s incest and that’s disgusting.
The Man: I wasn’t fucking her...
M: Do you like to fuck other little girls? Or do you like to just stick to family events?
The Man: I don’t know what you’re talking about!
M: SHUT UP!
Cody: What is he doing?
(With that The Man’s lips become sealed. He struggles to open his mouth.)
M: Give me your knife.
(Unable to resist, he hands M the knife.)
M: Do you know what I think of you? Do you know what I think of grown-up’s who like to pray on little girls? I think they think twice about what they’ve done if they had there blood come pouring out of their throats.
(M takes the knife and slits the mans throat. He lands on the ground, blood pouring out of his neck.)
Cody: WHAT THE HELL! YOU JUST KILLED THAT GUY! BUT YOU LOOK LIKE ME? I’M GONNA GO TO JAIL.
M: You are such a bad boy. You’re supposed to say thank you when someone does something for you.
Cody: Who are you?
(M giggles. Despite the fact that it is now much deeper thanks to the deep voice of Cody’s original form, it is easily recognized as M’s giggle.)
M: What’s the Square root of 46?
Cody: What? … Whoa... You’re that little girl... that little freak.
M: If anyone is a little girl right now, it’s you.
Cody: You’re wearing my face?
M: Your face. Your arms. Your tummy... and your boy parts too.
(M grabs her the crotch of Cody’s original form.)
Cody: Oh that is just weird... Stop it right now.
M: You have my girl parts now. Do you want to play with them?
Cody: NO! I DON’T! I like being me. I like being a guy...
M: You’re a liar.
Cody: I’M NOT!
M: You’re a child.
Cody: Who are you?
M: M...
Cody: M? That’s your name? That’s just a letter.
M: That’s all I’m telling you. The rest is a secret.
Cody: Would you stop being so cryptic!
M: But it’s fun.
Cody: Why did you do this to me? Huh? Why did you turn me into...
M: A little girl? Sniveling Child?
Cody: Into you!
M: Me? You are not me. You will never be me.
Cody: The way I look now... It’s what you looked like when you appeared to me last night... Why did you... make me into that? Why are you using my body?
M: YOU WILL NEVER BE ME!
Cody: I don’t want to be.
M: No, you don’t. You will never be me, but maybe you can understand what it’s like to be me.
Cody: Why would I want to do that? What do you want me to understand.
M: I wanted to be alive.
Cody: What?
M: Look like you. That was the only way.
Cody: You’re dead? And you had to look like me to come back.
M: You ask a lot of questions.
Cody: You’re not giving me a lot of answers.
M: You’re gonna leave me. You always leave me.
Cody: LEAVE YOU WHERE? I can’t really leave you if I look like you, can I?
M: Bingo!
Cody: What?
M: You won’t leave this time... because it’ll be happening to you. And this time there won’t be anyone to even see it.
Cody: What?
M: You saw how it went this time. You had me to protect you. Someone who looked like you to protect someone that looked like me. But next time there won’t be. Next time... You’ll be all alone.
Cody: Why?
M: Why what?
Cody: Why? Why me? Why any of this? Why do I look like you? Why do you look like me? Why is any of this happening.
M: Time... Mr. Cody.
Cody: What?
M: You’ll understand... Everything in time.
Cody: What will I understand?
(M walks over to Cody and places her hand on his head.)
M: Now you should sleep.
(Cody’s original body begins to convulse. It collapses. M has now return to her original form.)
M: You will feel my fucking pain.
(With a strength beyond what she appears capable of M drags Cody offstage. Black Out.)

Scene 3
Scene 3
(Morning. The dorm room. The room is just as messy as the night before. Cody, now returned to his original body, lies sprawled on the bed, asleep. A cell phone ring is heard. The ring tone is an obnoxious heavy metal song. The noise springs Cody to life. He jumps out of bed and searches frantically for the phone. He finds the phone just as it is about to stop ringing and answers it.)
Cody: Hullo? . . . Who is this? . . . Oh, hey Chris . . . Yeah sorry about that, I had to find the phone. I was kinda asleep when you called. . . . No worries man. So anyways, what’s up? . . . OH! The history book I borrowed!
(He begins to search amidst the mess of his room for the borrowed book. He sorts through his room, finding some rather unsavory items: some gym socks, a half eaten sandwhich, responding with total disregard to the disgusting state of the room. He eventually finds the book in question. This is done as he continues his phone conversation.)
Cody: Yeah it’s around here somewhere. . . . No I didn’t lose it on you . . . Listen man, My room may be messy to outsiders, but I no where everything is. . . . I DO! . . . Hey listen, why don’t you come over now. I promise you, your book’ll be waiting right here for you by then. . . . Alright, I’ll see ya then. Hey, wild party last night, huh? . . . Yeah I musta had some strange shit. I had the most bizarre dream last night. . . . I’ll tell you what it’s about when you get here to pick up the book. . . . Well, alright. . . . See ya then. Bye.
(Cody looks around at the mess he lives in.)
Cody: Ya know, I really should clean this place.
(There is a knock at the door.)
Cody: Chris is that you, already?
(A female voice emerges from behind the door.)
Voice: Is this the residence of Cody Fortier?
Cody: Yeah? What about it?
Voice: It’s the police. Open up.
(Cody goes to the door and opens it. Enter Detective Giless, a middle aged female cop. Her worn face suggest she’s seem some troubling things in her years on the force.)
Cody: How can I help you Officer? Giless: I’m investigating the body of a young Jane Doe found just around the corner of this building last night. Forensics say she died within the last 48 hours. Now the security guard down stairs said you came in pretty late last night. I was wondering if you might’ve seen anything.
Cody: Listen Officer, I’d love to help, but I was at a party last night and I drank alot.
Giless: So I figured.
Cody: I really don’t remember much about last night. It’s a bit of a blur.
Giless: Well maybe this might jog your memory.
(Giless produces a photograph and hands it to Cody.)
Giless: This is a picture of the victim.
(Cody looks at the picture, and struggles to hold back his surprise. The Jane Doe in the photo is M. Giless notices Cody’s reaction.)
Giless: Mr. Fortier is something wrong? Do you recognize her?
Cody: (struggling to hide the fact that he actually does recognize her) When you said a “young Jane Doe” I wasn’t expecting her to be this young. How old is she?
Giless: Well, I shouldn’t really be discussing those details but... forensics say she’s pretty young. Like 7 or 8.
Cody: Geez.
Giless: It’s tragic. So. You’re sure you don’t remember anything?
Cody: I might. Like I said, last night was really fuzzy. I’ll try and think about it, but...
Giless: I’ll give a couple of days to think about it. You can keep the picture. It’s just a copy. I’m sure it’ll help jog your memory. Oh and here’s my card for when you do remember anything.
(Giless hands him a card. Cody takes it and gives it a once over.)
Cody: Detective Karen Giless. (He offers his hand for a handshake.) Nice to meet you.
Giless: (She returns the gesture.) Likewise, I’m sure. Well, I’ll be going. Thank you for your time.
(Giless begins to exit.) Giless: Oh, and it’s none of my business, but I’m fairly certain this room won’t pass it’s next health and safety exam the way it is. You might want to clean it up a little.
Cody: Will do.
(Giless exits. Cody plops onto his bed and looks at the picture of M.)
Cody: M... what are you?
(There is a knock at the door.)
Cody: Who is it?
(A voice is heard through the door. A young man.)
Chris: Cody? It’s me, Chris.
Cody: I’m coming.
(Cody walks to the door and opens it. Enter Chris. He looks around the room in slight disgust, but says nothing. Chris grabs the history book from atop a pile and hands it to Chris.)
Cody: Here ya go, man. Thanks for this, you saved me a bundle.
Chris: No problem. Hey, was that a cop I saw coming outta here.
Cody: Oh. Yeah... some girl got killed around the corner, and she wanted to know if I saw anything.
Chris: Oh really? So what you tell her? Did you see any murders in action? Maybe you’ll be put in the witness protection program.
Cody: As if. I told her I was really drunk last night from the party, and my memory was really hazy?
Chris: Oh so that’s what you told her? Interesting. So what really happened?
Cody: Just that. I told you earlier on the phone, I was really fucked up. Whole night’s a blur.
Chris: I see. Oh yeah, you said something about weird dreams?
Cody: Oh... yeah I did.
(pause)
Cody: What?
Chris: And? What did you dream about?
Cody: Don’t you have a test to study for?
Chris: Are you really going to make me go home and study? That’s torcherous. So tell me, what was this dream about.
Cody: Never mind. It’s stupid.
Chris: Tell me! I want to know!
Cody: No I’m not gonna tell you and ya know why? You’re gonna go home and get your little dreambook and over analyze all of it. I know how you’re into all that weird occult paranormal shit.
Chris: Puhleaze. As if I care enough to analyze your dreams. I’m just trying to make a little conversation. You sounded all excited about the trips you were having last night when we were on the phone. Now all of a sudden your gonna clam up when we’re in person. Must’ve been weird ass dreams.
(M’s giggle is heard. Cody notices.)
Cody: Did you hear that?
Chris: Hear what?
(Cody shakes his head. He looks at the photograph of M.)
Cody: Nothing... Nevermind.
Chris: What’s that you got there?
Cody: It’s the picture of the... Alright fine. Actually, I think maybe you can help me with this.
Chris: With what?
Cody: The dreams.
Chris: Oh so now you do wanna tell me about them. Make up your mind, man.
Cody: Alright, now it’s kinda embarassing, so don’t tell anybody about it alright? Anyways I don’t even remember going to sleep. I just remember coming up and this damn lamp flickering like crazy. I turn it off It turns on. I decide to leave it on it just shuts off it’s like it’s playing with me. Then this little girl appears. This little girl in a yellow dress. She says all this weird shit and I’m all confused. And then she... hugs me. And next thing I know, I’m her.
Chris: Your her?
Cody: Yeah.
Chris: What do you mean?
Cody: I had turned into the little girl.
Chris: How did you know?
Cody: I looked in the mirror.
Chris: So you’re telling me that last night, you dreamt about turning into a little girl.
Cody: Yes.
Chris: Vagina and all?
Cody: Whoa dude. You don’t have to say it like that.
Chris: Since when are you a prude?
Cody: I don’t know. I didn’t actually check.
Chris: You mean you dreamt about being a girl and you didn’t...
Cody: A little girl! A child. It would’ve been weird and illegal or something.
Chris: True.
Cody: Anyways the next thing that I know I’m in this dark alley...
Chris: Still as a little girl.
Cody: Yes.
Chris: I see. Cody: And this guy comes up to me and he starts hitting on me?
Chris: While you’re a little girl?
Cody: Yes. Geeze, will you stop rubbing it in?
Chris: Sorry.
Cody: And then the guy starts getting violent and then suddenly I come out of nowhere... or someone in my body...
Chris: So you were seeing yourself from the eyes of the little girl.
Cody: Yeah... it turns out the little girl had taken over my body. And while looking like me, takes a knife from the guy and slits his throat.
Chris: Whoa. Was there blood?
Cody: Everywhere.
Chris: I’ve had those kinds of dreams before... So what happened next?
Cody: Well the little girl comes up to me while she’s in my body and puts her hand on my forehead and then I wake up.
Chris: Damn.
Cody: Yeah... next thing I know, my phones ringing and your calling asking for the history book.
Chris: So what exactly did you wanna know about this dream?
Cody: Well... that’s the thing... I think it might’ve actually happened.
Chris: What? You mean you really turned into a little girl?
Cody: No that was just the dream. I mean the whole scene, except with me actually being me.
Chris: Why is that?
Cody: Remember the cop? The girl who’s body they found?
Chris: Yeah...
(Cody shows him the picture.)
Cody: It’s the little girl I dreamt about.
Chris: Whoa...
Cody: Yeah...
Chris: That’s interesting... That’s... very...
Cody: Bizarre?
Chris: Well actually I was just gonna say interesting again, but that works too.
Cody: So what do you think?
Chris: I have no idea.
Cody: What if I killed someone Chris? I mean it was just in cold blood in the dream, Chris. Just... very violent...
Chris: I think you may be onto something.
Cody: Really? Oh shit, what if I did kill someone!
Chris: I’m not sure that’s exactly how it happened.
Cody: What do you mean?
Chris: Well they didn’t find a guys body, did they? It was just the little girl. And do you remember what happened to her?
Cody: Just my hand getting put on her forehead. Oh god what if I killed her too.
Chris: No, I don’t think so. Trust me, I don’t think you’re a killer.
Cody: Uh, thanks I guess.
(A phone chimes. Chris reaches into his pocket and pulls one out. He looks at the screen.)
Chris: Oh, I gotta go. I have a class in 15 minutes.
Cody: Oh, alright. Here, don’t forget the book. (Cody hands Chris the book.)
Chris: Right. Must not forget the book. Hey, I’ll do a little research and let you know what I find out.
Cody: Thanks man. And remember, not a word of this to anyone.
Chris: My lips are sealed.
(Chris exits. Black out.)

Scene 4:
(Cody’s dorm, several hours later. Cody enters carrying a backpack. He appears tired. He drops the backpack on the floor, and plops on to the bed. He lies there for a second and then gets back up, sits at his desk, opens his laptop, and begins clicking around. M appears by the lamp and sneaks up behind Cody and giggles, startling him.)
Cody: Geeze, you scared the... It’s... It’s you... You’re the...
M: I told you... I am M.
Cody: Yeah I know that... Shit I must be dreaming again.
M: You know nothing of dreams.
Cody: What are you trying to tell me this isn’t a dream? That what happened last night wasn’t a dream? It has to be. You can’t be here... You’re dead.
M: You’re finally getting on to something.
Cody: How can you be here if you’re dead?
M: That’s Irrelevent. Now, it’s time to continue your punishment.
Cody: What?
M: SHUT UP.
(She grabs Cody as the lamp begins to flicker again. It blacks out. The sound of rain begins to rise. Lights up on the Dark Alley. Cody, now in M’s body lies on the ground. M, in Cody’s body stands over him as he begins to come to. He begins to rise and with a rush realizes what has happened.) Cody: It’s... It’s happened again. I’m... you.
M: You are me, and I am you.
Cody: But why?
M: You will feel my pain.
Cody: What?
M: What? What? What? Stop asking questions. I couldn’t be anymore clear.
Cody: You’re not making sense.
M: YOU. ARE. GOING. TO BE PUNISHED.
Cody: For what? Why am I being punished?
M: You don’t even remember.
Cody: REMEMBER WHAT?
M: You could’ve stopped it at anytime.
Cody: What?
M: You had the power to stop it. You had the choice. But you ignored me. You...
Cody: Does this have to do with how you died?
M: I...
(Enter The Man, stumbling. M looks at him.)
M: He’s here. Now it is time. (To Cody) I will not step in this time. I’m almost sorry...
Cody: What do you mean?
(M vanishes, leaving Cody alone with the Man.)
Cody: But... that’s him...
(The Man takes notice of Cody.) The Man: Well what’s someone like you doing in a place like this, in the middle of the night, all by your lonesome?
Cody: Get away from me.
The Man: Well now. That’s pretty rude for you to be talking to a grown up like that, now isn’t it little girl.
Cody: I’m not a little girl.
The Man: You know what happens to little girls who are rude to grown ups? They get punished. But, if you promise to be nice, I might give you a little something special.
(The Man kneels to be face to face with Cody. He grabs him by the chin and pulls his face into hers.)
The Man: Do you promise to be polite?
Cody: No.
(The Man smacks Cody, knocking him over. He pulls him back up, grabbing both his arms.)
The Man: Now your going to have to be extra nice. You’re going to have do me a big favor. Now has anyone taught you about the birds and the bees?
Cody: GET OFF OF ME!
The Man: YOU’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE LITTLE GIRL. YOU WERE RUDE TO ME. SO NOW YOU DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED! YOU OWE ME! IT’S TIME YOU WERE TAUGHT A LESSON!
(The Man throws Cody to the ground, and then jumps on top of him, pinning him down. Black out. There is a scream. It is neither Cody’s, nor M’s, but a sorrowful combination of both. A light reveals M, now in her original form standing isolated in the darkness.)
M: I am going to tell you a story, Cody. It’s a bit of a fairy tale. If you pay very close attention, then maybe you’ll understand. Once upon a time there was a beautiful young princess, who wore a beautiful yellow dress, yellow was her favorite color you see. It reminded her of the sunlight, oh, how she loved the sun. However she had never seen the sunrise. She had always dreamt with wonder of seeing such a marvelous sight, but alas, always awoke long after the sun had already risen. So one night, she decided to stay up all night so that she could watch, just once, the sun peeking up out of the horizon. As she peered out her window, she realized she would never be able to watch the sun rise through it, not clearly at least, as she lived in the middle of a big city. So she did something she had never dared to do before: She left her castle and went out on her own. How she was filled with such thrill! She was normally such a good little girl, but had never been allowed to leave the castle alone, oh no, her parents were far too protective for that. And alas, they were right to be. That feeling of thrill soon vanished from the princess’s mind as a dark shroud of fear began to hover over her. She realized she had become lost. She wandered the streets of the endless city, but couldn’t seem to reach the end. Finally she turned the corner into an alleyway, where she found a man. “Oh good” The Princess thought, “Maybe he can lead me in the right direction.” “Excuse me, sir?” The little girl said, “I’m lost... I’m looking for a place where I can watch the sunrise. Do you know if I’m going the right way?” The man smiled a smile the girl mistook for friendliness. What a harsh mistake that was. This was not a man to be trusted. You see, he was an evil sorceror, who’s sole mission was to corrupt the souls of the innocent. He had a magic wand, which he used to dig deep into the princess’s heart and blacken her from the inside out. This darkness spread even to the girl’s once beautiful dress, which corrupted into a dark brown. (M’s dress becomes drenched in blood.) Then the man banished her to realm between life and death, a place where she would never, ever, see the sun shine again...
(The light of the lamppost in the alleyway returns. Cody, in his original form, lies curled in front of the dumpster, The Man nowhere in sight. M walks to Cody, standing over him. He shakes. He is broken.)
M: Do you understand?
Cody: No...
M: You are fucking thick.
Cody: No, I... Why are you doing this... to me?
M: You still don’t remember, do you?
Cody: Remember what?
M: You were there. You had the power to stop this... to save me...
Cody: What?
M: You did nothing to stop him... You just...
Cody: I could have saved you? M: Yes.
Cody: I could have stopped this from happening?
M: Yes.
Cody: Then last night... when you came in as me... You were showing me..
M: What you should have done. What you didn’t do.
(Cody breaks down. He weeps.)
Cody: I’m sorry.
(M kicks him.)
M: Fuck you.
(Black out.)

(Note: The final chapter is several scenes. I will post each scene as I finish them. The whole thing WILL be up by july 21st)
Scene 5:
(The dorm. Cody is once again asleep in his bed. He wakes suddenly, as if from a nightmare. He slowly rises. He rubs his face, and realizes he was crying in his sleep.)
Cody: M? Are you here?
(There is a knocking at the door. Chris’s voice is heard through it.)
Chris: Cody? You in there?
Cody: Yeah, hold on!
(Cody gets out of the bed and groggily walks to the door to open it. Enter Chris.)
Cody: What’s going on?
Chris: Have you heard?
Cody: Heard what?
Chris: Well the story about the body of the little girl that was found is making it around campus.
Cody: And? I figured that would happen.
Chris: I’ve heard your name mentioned a few times. People know that cop came to talk to you.
Cody: People know about that?
Chris: Yeah?
Cody: You told them?
Chris: No! I swear I didn’t.
Cody: Because if you mention what I told you about these dreams to ANYBODY...
Chris: I KNOW! RELAX! I haven’t told anybody and I’m not going to. Now listen, there’s something else I’m hearing too.
Cody: Now what?
Chris: They have a tape?
Cody: A what?
Chris: From like a security cam.
Cody: Word?
Chris: Word.
Cody: So like, they caught what happened on tape?
Chris: Possibly.
Cody: Shit.
Chris: What?
Cody: I had another dream last night.
Chris: And?
Cody: I think I remember what happened.
Chris: What did happen?
Cody: I don’t know!
Chris: I though you just said...
Cody: I know. It’s just that... I...
Chris: What is it?
Cody: She says she’s punishing me.
Chris: The little girl?
Cody: Yes.
Chris: What for? (pause) Whoa man, don’t tell me you killed...
Cody: No... I didn’t.
Chris: Well then what?
Cody: I saw it happen.
Chris: The murder?
Cody: It was worse than that?
Chris: There’s something worse than murder?
(Cody stares at Chris for a second.)
Chris: Oh god... Wait you watched?
Cody: I don’t know what I did! I don’t actually remember it myself, I only know what she keeps telling me... She says I was there... And I could’ve stopped it.
Chris: But you didn’t?
Cody: I guess not.
Chris: Well why not?
Cody: I DON’T KNOW.
Chris: Sorry I...
Cody: So tell me. Did you by any chance look through your paranormal shit? Did you find anything that could help? Anything that could tell you what’s going on with me?
Chris: I did. I didn’t find anything.
Cody: Damn.
Chris: But...
Cody: What?
Chris: Maybe I was looking for the wrong thing.
Cody: What?
Chris: Well... Cody: WHAT?
Chris: I mean... maybe you’re not dreaming?
Cody: What?
Chris: Have you ever heard of astral projection?
Cody: Astro what?
Chris: Astral projection. It’s like... an out of body experience.
Cody: What about it?
Chris: Well you said yourself, you’re experiencing things from her point of view.
Cody: The other night I did. Last night... I kept.. switching.
Chris: Switching?
Cody: Well... last night, it started the same way it did the other night. I was lost in an alley and that guy showed up. And he... started to... well...
Chris: I get it.
Cody: But this time no body came in to stop him. Not me, not M made up to look like me. It... was... awf...
(A tear. Cody swallows hard.)
Chris: Dude are you crying?
Cody: No, I’m not... I’m just... tired. Anyways all I remember is her telling me this story. She looked like herself when she said it. It was this fairytale... about some chick who wanted to watch the sunrise or some shit like that. It was so supposed to be about what happened to her. Next thing I know I’m curled up in the same spot where he... only this time I was myself. She kicked me and asked me why I coudln’t help. Why didn’t I help, Chris?
Chris: I don’t know.
Cody: So this astro distraction thing... What is it about?
Chris: Astral projection, like she’s pulling you out of your body. Some people say Astral Projection can do a sorts of shit like go anwhere you want or go back in time. Maybe that’s what she’s doing? Pulling you back in time, and making you...
Cody: Go through what she did. So how do I stop it?
Chris: Beats me. I dunno. She says you could’ve saved her. Why don’t you try to save her this time. Who knows. Maybe you could rewrite history. Make it so it never happened.
Cody: This is some crazy shit your telling me.
Chris: Yeah, this is just what people say. I’ve never tried projecting, myself. Never could figure out how. Besides I deal with too much from the other side it is.
Cody: So you really deal with this shit everyday?
Chris: Yeah.
Cody: I’m sorry, man.
Chris: Don’t be. It’s burden I bear by choice. I owe it to someone.
Cody: Who?
Chris: (looks at his watch) SHIT! I’m late for class.
Cody: Oh... sorry for keeping you.
Chris: It’s fine. Listen, you let me know how things work out, alright?
Cody: Will do.
(Chris swiftly exits.)
Cody: M! Are you there?
(Silence)
Cody: Of course not.
(M appears once again by the the lampost. She touches it. It flickers. Cody turns around.)
Cody: M.
M: Cody.
Cody: I’m sorry.
M: I’m dead.
Cody: I’M SORRY!
M: I don’t forgive you.
Cody: I can stop it.
M: What?
Cody: Give me another chance. You can take me back in time can’t you. That’s what you’ve been doing the entire time.
M: That’s not...
Cody: Please. Let me fix this.
M: Why didn’t you get it right the first time?
Cody: I’m sorry.
M: STOP SAYING THAT.
Cody: Let me fix this. Please. I will stop it this time. I can save you.
M: You can’t save me.
Cody: Please.
M: But maybe you can try.
(She walks up to him and looks up at him. Then she slowly embraces him. The lamp begins to flicker. Black out.)

Scene 6:
(The Alleyway. M steps into the light of the lamppost. She moves with resistance, as if she knows what’s coming. As he has before, The Man saunters in. He sees M and approaches.)
The Man: Well what’s someone like you doing in a place like this, in the middle of the night, all by your lonesome?
M: I’m lost.
The Man: You’re lost? Aw, well... Why don’t I help you find your way?
(The Man approaches M. Cody enters, unseen by the Man.)
M: Thank you.
The Man: You’re welcome.
(The Man begins to touch M.)
M: Where am I?
The Man: What the fuck does it matter?
M: Mister?
The Man: Why we take this pretty yellow dress off?
(Cody approaches them.)
Cody: Hey! You! What are you doing to that girl?
The Man: Get lost, Kid.
Cody: Get your hands off of her.
(The Man takes out a knife and makes it visible to Cody.)
The Man: Get. Lost. Kid.
Cody: No. I’m not just gonna stand there and let you hurt this little girl.
(The Man begins to laugh.) Cody: What’s so funny?
The Man: Oh, Cody...
Cody: What?
The Man: You are really fucking thick.
Cody: How do you know my name?
The Man: I know everything about you. I know you better than you know yourself.
Cody: M, are you doing this?
(M says nothing.)
The Man: Tell me Cody, what is so special about her. Where do you get this need to be the hero. To save her?
Cody: She needs help.
The Man: WRONG! Why didn’t you help you when you first had the chance?
Cody: I don’t know.
The Man: You just want to end the torment. Being turned into a little girl is too much for you to handle. It hurts your pride.
Cody: No it’s just...
The Man: It’s emasculating isn’t it?
Cody: Well...
The Man: It makes you less of a man.
Cody: No.
The Man: What? Do you LIKE being a little girl?
Cody: No.
The Man: What are you doing here, Cody? Cody: M, say something.
M: I have nothing to say.
The Man: Don’t talk to it, Cody. That’s just an object, isn’t it.
Cody: You’re wrong.
The Man: I’m what?
Cody: You are wrong. You sick fuck.
The Man: Oho! Someone is getting brave.
Cody: If anyone is less of a man it’s you.
The Man: Why? Because I like to touch little girls? How after-school special.
Cody: You disgust me.
The Man: What are you going to do about it?
Cody: I’m going to kill you.
The Man: Are you now? And just how will you do that.
Cody: You’re not like M. You can bleed.
The Man: Oh that is most definitely true. I can bleed. As can you.
(He hands Cody the knife.)
The Man: Do it.
Cody: What?
The Man: DO IT. Now. Or are too scared.
(Cody takes the knife. He looks at M. She stares back at him, neither reassuring nor disapproving of what he is about to do. He looks to The Man. He stares into his eyes. With a deep breath he plunge knife into the man’s stomach. The Man keels over, but Cody catches him. He continues to stab The Man several times. Finally he lets The Man go as the body falls to the ground, dead. Cody runs to M, falls to his knees and embraces her.) Cody: I did it. I saved you. You’re not gonna die tonight.
M: Cody...
Cody: Everything’s gonna be okay, right?
M: No.
Cody: What?
M: No, Cody. Everything isn’t going to be alright.
(Unseen by Cody, the Man begins to rise. He picks the knife off the ground and plunges it into M. Cody jumps back. The Man dissapears. M collapses.)
Cody: NO! M! NO! I saved you! I stopped this from happening!
M: Silly boy. I never promised any such thing.
Cody: But...
M: You’ve already made your decision. You cannot change the past Cody. What’s done is done... and I am still dead.
Cody: But I saved you.
M: I let you save me. Just one night, I granted you mercy. But it will never happen again. This will never stop Cody. I will never stop hating you.
Cody: But M...
M: Shut up!
(She grabs his forehead. He falls to the ground on top of her. Short black out. When Lights return we find Cody in his room slowly returning to consciousness, lying somewhere on admits the mess on his floor. He pulls himself up and finds his phone. He picks up a pair of pants off the ground and digs out a card from the pockets. He then dials the number on the card. A piece of yellow fabric sticks out where the pants once lay.)
Cody: Hi! Detective Gilless? I have something to admit to you... I remember what happened the other night. Could you get here right away?
(Black out)
(One more scene to post after this.)

Scene 7
(Lights up. The dorm room. Cody sits on the bed, waiting for something to happen. There is a knock at the door. Cody swiftly gets up and answers it. Enter Gilless. She is wary of Cody.)
Cody: Thank you for coming, Detective.
Giless: You said there was something you wanted to admit to me. Something about the Jane Doe case?
Cody: Yes... um... How has the investigation been going so far?
Giless: Quite good. We’ve figued out who she was and how she died... We’ve got a videotape that shows what happened... All we need is an ID for the killer... Which I assume you can help me with.
Cody: Maybe...
Giless: So... What happened?
(Cody is still. He is collecting his memories. He begins to tear.)
Giless: Cody?
Cody: I’m sorry... No little girl deserves to go through what she did.
Giless: So what do you remember?
Cody: I... was on my way home. After the party. I couldn’t afford to take a taxi so I decided to walk. I was... really really drunk. This much you already know. At some point... for some reason... I decided to take a short cut. I turned into this alleyway. And as I’m walking I hear this noise. Voices. 2. A man and a little girl. I turn the corner and their they are. I wish to god I could remember what his face looked like, so I could spit in it the next time I see it. He was touching her... feeling her... It was disgusting. I wanted to do something. I screamed in my head “GO! RUN! HELP HER!” but my body wouldn’t move. All I could do was stand there watch. As the big scary man had her way with the frightened little girl. She screamed. Oh, how I remember her screams. I can’t seem to get them out of my head. Then when he was done... He took out a knife and he... slit her throat... that tiny child. I watched as the blood spilled down and soaked her pretty yellow dress, and all I could think was... what kind of monster could do this. You know when you’re a kid, when you’re her age they tell you stories of magical monsters, 7 head dragons and great beasts but... The real monsters don’t have to be so inhuman looking. They could look like you or me and you wouldn’t even know it. I’m sorry, Detective Giless. I should’ve done something. I could’ve stopped it... But... But I... (He collapses to the ground. Giless goes kneels to comfort him, but notices the piece of yellow fabric sticking out of his pile of clothes. She pulls it out from underneath the pile. It is a child sized dress, once yellow, now heavily stained with blood. She backs away from Cody and pulls out her gun.)
Giless: Get up. Put your hands on your head.
Cody: What?
Giless: I SAID PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD!
Cody: What did I do?
Giless: I told you we have a video of the crime.
Cody: Yes?
Giless: There was noone. NOONE around to witness it.
Cody: Maybe I was off camera...
Giless: We have the whole city block covered. And another thing... they couldn’t completely confirm it, but the one who did this, matches your description pretty well... We just found it before your call.
Cody: But I...
Giless: AND NOW I FIND THIS?
(she holds up the dress with one fist.)
Giless: I wanted to believe you kid, I really did. I was hoping you would do the right thing and turn yourself in. But to have you sit there and LIE to me? With this buried right beneath us?
Cody: It was me?
Giless: NO FUCKING SHIT.
Cody: But...
Giless: TURN AROUND.
Cody: Oh my god, M... I’m sorry (He turns around.)
Giless: Hands behind your back.
(He does so. She places handcuffs on him.)
Giless: Cody Fortier, your under arrest for the rape and murder of Maria Sunder.
Cody: I’m sorry, M
Giless: It’s too late for that. She can’t hear you.
(She leads him out of the room. M appears.)
M: I do not forgive you.
(Black Out. End of Play.)
