Across the view of the shimmering waters, the sounds of tiny animals could be heard scampering about. The serene landscape carried a crisp air that cooled the lungs, tickling the voice with pollen and light. Light broke through the sparse trees, raining down in streams of gold, reflecting off the water. The algae in the lake even seemed compliant with the nature of the day. The scene at hand was immaculate and perfect.
A young girl sat by the shallow edge of the lake, stirring the water with a bare toe. She seemed to be awaiting someone.

I wonder if she even wants to see me.
Drake stepped toward the lakeside, trying to be quiet as to not interrupt Juni in whatever thoughts she might have been thinking at the time. He felt odd speaking to her, but he couldn't exactly place on why he felt this strange feeling in his heart whenever he spoke with her. He just wanted to make sure she was happy.
He decided to sit down, not exactly beside her, but at least close enough nearby that they could speak comfortably. He had been wearing sandals with his pants, so he took them off and rolled his pants up, so he could stick his feet in the water.
"Hello Juni. How are things?"

Drake. Still non-threatening, as always.
"This existence is sustainable. Are things well on your part?"
Juni's gaze failed to leave the center of the lake. The moment with Drake wasn't truly sinking in, and she continued silent contemplation of morality. Aware of his presence, but more-or-less asking herself, "What makes a person good?", she bleats out in a monotone.

Drake had been ready to answer her first question when she suddenly blurted out the second question, he paused for a moment. She normally never asked questions like this, so he grew a bit worried. Had he been a bad person, and this was her way of hinting towards that?
"Well, it really depends on your point of view, I suppose," Drake began, trying to think of what he really thought of when he called a person good. "I would say that a person is good when they do good things, and they act like a decent human being. What do you think?"

"...You're right..."
She fell silent. Had she been more expressive, her face would be painted with a look of guilt and dismay, however, her pale face stared out, stoic as ever. Somehow, she felt accused by Drake, like he was hinting at her blatant evil. She couldn't blame him, many people in history were killed by her hands. Truly, she could not culminate any good about her.
"Have you ever had something to prove?"

Now Drake was getting nervous. Did he really need to prove himself to Juni? He thought they were, at the very least, good friends, and he had come here to talk to her about something... important. If she was going to hint at him like this, he wasn't sure how things would work out.
"Well, yes, especially after everything that happened," he explained, trying to hide how nervous he was becoming, but doing a poor job at it. "Everyone, I suppose, needs to prove something to someone. It is part of living, I would imagine. Why, do you feel like you have something to prove?"

"But... even after you know that your fate is the same as everyone else, do you still feel the need for proof? What makes proving yourself any different from simply existing as an unnamed bug, or phantom?"
She paused to contemplate. Drake was uneasy. She was not looking at him, but feeling the energy off of his body. His veins pulsated with a tension that emit a smell, one that only the most primitive of animals could detect. Feeling no strife towards Drake, the natural human instinct would be the smile and change the subject.
Juni turned her head and stared blankly towards Drake, unsmiling as ever, and touched his cheek gently. She ran her smooth skin over his cheekbones and through his hair. "In my touching you, what was your instinct? Did this prove something to you, or are you surprised?"

If Juni paid enough attention, she would notice that he leaned in slightly towards her touch, and a slight sigh of content escaped his lips when she ran her hand through his hair. He was so content that he didn't bother to reply for a moment, instead focusing on the feeling of the touch she had given him.
"I am surprised in the best of ways," Drake finally replied, actually turning to her and smiling. "Juni, I have to tell you this. I... enjoy your company, I truly do. In more ways than one."
He actually took his hand and touched her hand softly, holding a few of her fingers in his hand. He didn't want to make her nervous or cause her to back away if it was the case that she didn't feel the same, so he took care to be extremely gentle with her fingers, simply holding them in his warm hands.
"We all have a different fate, and I have the feeling yours is not that of a phantom or an insect. You have done so much good, that no one could repay you properly. I just hope that there is something I can do to even begin to repay you for all you've done."

The gentle touch and soft words of Drake shocked Juni... to the point where she accidentally released a spell that mutilated a nearby tree. A millenia in a sociopathic, emotionally-catatonic state unnerved Juni to the point of... blushing. Her face was now as beet red as her hair, and though she felt she was supposed to look coy, her face was bent into an awkward snarl.
"Bap."
That isn't a word. Fuck mortality and human emotions, I'm not used to this. Perhaps I should have devoted more time into learning modern customs as opposed to ancient ones... Though, if ancient customs are the basis of modern custom, as long as I behave remotely like that, I may pass as a proper lady. This is... bap! BAP! BAP!
Juni knelt down and dusted off the pant legs and feet of Drake, careful to not look up, as it was considered insulting for the lady of ancient noble house to make direct eye contact with her lord.

"Bap...?"
Drake was extremely confused now, and he felt hurt, as well. Juni had nearly destroyed a tree after he touched her and admitted his feelings, and he felt as if that was normally a bad sign. He had only dated a few times before, and all of those were arranged by his parents to carry on the royal line (which hadn't worked out too well, as he didn't like those women).
Had he been rejected?
She won't even look him in the eyes. What had he done? Was he too bold? Was his touch too tight? He... felt horrible.
"Juni, I apologize if I was too forward," he stammered, looking down at the ground. "I did not mean to put you in such an awkward position. I... really did not mean to insult you."

"Milord, you are not supposed to apologize to the lady who serves you... I exist to benefit you."
Does he not approve of my services? I should prepare a foot bath... Why are things so different now? Before, I could assault him without guilt... Am I being too submissive?
"I would be honored to educate you in the history of my country!"
Juni's face was now redder than her hair, which was thought to be an impossible shade of red. She blatantly caught herself staring at him, her face, still distorted in a hideous snarl, with one of the blood vessels in her eye pulsating.
"Would you care to engage in cultural study? We can observe the progress of traditions!"
Bap.

"I no longer require your services. You are free to do what you will."
Drake did not want to let Juni go, but he believed this was what would be best. If she was serving him, she would always do things like this, and ignore his advances. He had to be bold for a change, which was exceedingly rare for him. Hopefully Juni would realize this and notice that he wanted to speak with her.
"I am honoured you want to share that history with me, but share it with me as a friend, not as a servant."

Upon the registration of the news, the tension in the air calmed, and Juni sobered up. Her face settled in a cool stare, and she turned back to the waters.
He thought of me as a servant the whole time... A servant, who is now discontinued from service. I know where this is heading.
Juni traced her fingers through the water, further ignoring the rest of what he was saying.
If I was nothing but a servant, then I might've made a mistake in prematurely dispelling the Crystal Heart. Perhaps if I leave and make another demon pact, I can become immortal again...
Juni hadn't even realized she had been crying through her thoughts.

Drake saw Juni's tears, and instinctively he went to wipe them away from her face, not even caring if she took it the wrong way or didn't like it. If he had caused her to cry, he intended to make things right, no matter how it was done. He felt so stupid, for making such a grave error. What if she had actually liked being a servant?
"Juni, the reason I don't want you to think of yourself as a servant is because I love you and I-!"
He paused. He was being way too bold.
"I... want you to be happy."

...love you...
In that moment, Juni wasn't sure where she was or why she suddenly got really dizzy.
She couldn't say anything, really. Her mind was void of cognition, and she simply mulled over words in silence. Juni was certain she had to speak soon, and the closest thing at a romantic word slipped from her tongue.
"...likewise."

"Really?!"
Drake's smile was infectious. He felt all the stress of coming out here to speak with Juni wash away, and he couldn't help but give Juni a tight hug before realizing that he might have been too bold in doing that. At that point, he decided to pull away, just so Juni was able to breathe.
"I am so... glad. I was honestly worried you were going to reject me..."

Bap.
Juni broke herself free, and contorted a "smile" towards Drake. She then brushed the dew and dust from her body and nodded.
"Enough of the affection, I have business to attend to. We shall further this discussion later. Perhaps tomorrow night. I'm expecting rain, so I shall bring a tent. Thankfully that should keep the mosquitoes away. Be in this exact spot, and don't look for me before then. Understood?"
She turned and began walking away at her usual slow place. However, before being more than a few meters away, she turned tossed a fingernail-sized gem towards Drake.
"Bring that."
