Chapter 1: Two Girls, One Chapter
It was a warm summer evening. The sun was still out, just getting ready to set, and the soft chirping of birds could be heard in the distance. However, that evening was not tonight. This evening, the one that is taking place right now, was fairly cool. It wasn't too cold, but it was probably cold enough that you would want to wear a jacket, unless you like the cold, in which case you could probably get by without one.
There was a slight breeze, and there was a bit of fog. It wasn't so foggy that you could only see a couple of metres ahead, but anything off in the distance definitely could not be seen. Overhead, the moon was not visible, as there were clouds in the way. If the clouds had not been there, one could easily point out that there was a waning crescent moon out tonight.
It had been a fairly typical evening for Vanessa. It was the middle of November, and she had just turned eighteen a few weeks ago. She had been out with a few friends, and was walking home. It had been a lovely evening, she thought, when suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by a voice.
"Hey, what are you doing out so late?" someone asked.
Vanessa turned around and opened her mouth to answer, but she then realized the question wasn't being asked to her when somebody else answered it. She didn't think it had been that late, but she wasn't sure. She looked down at her wrist, and realized she had forgotten her watch. Luckily enough, the local sundial was just across the street.
She sped up, and ran across the road. There were no cars nearby, so she didn't have to look both ways before crossing. When Vanessa got to the sundial she was disappointed as she was unable to read it, because it was dark out.
The time was actually seven minutes past the eleventh hour, or twenty-third if you're going by twenty-four hour time, of the day, but Vanessa would not find this out until much later. Well, actually, she would not ever find this out, but she would eventually find out the time, and would be able to guess approximately what time it was at this moment.
The wind had started to increase, as well as the fog. Vanessa could now only see a few metres ahead of her. This was partly because of the fog, and partly because she didn't have her glasses. It had gotten much colder, and Vanessa wished she had brought her jacket with her. It hadn't been very cold when she left, and she didn't think it would become this cold. She also decided that wearing a skirt might not have been the best idea today, as her legs were freezing.
She started running now, accelerating north at a speed of 0.5 m/s² for 5 seconds, then running at a constant speed for 10 seconds, then turning and decelerating at 0.25 m/s² at 48° south of west until she reached a speed of 2 m/s, and then finally going west for 30 seconds at a constant speed of 2 m/s.
When she arrived at her destination, the park a few blocks away from her house, she wondered what her displacement was, so she stopped running for a few seconds to calculate it. She thought her answer looked a bit off, but then noticed she had forgotten about significant digits. Her final answer was surprising, as she thought that she had run further, but it was not nearly as surprising as what would happen next.
Vanessa thought that she saw someone standing in front of her. She pushed her hair back out of her face and squinted, trying to get a better look. She then decided to walk closer. It turned out to just be a street light.
"Oh, that was surprising!" she exclaimed, meaning to just think that to herself.
Suddenly, she felt something caressing her shoulder. A chill went down her back. It felt like there was a hand on her shoulder. The hand was soft and gentle, and Vanessa was slightly aroused. She then remembered that it was a dark and scary night, and someone she did not know had just touched her. Frightened, she turned around, to see a beautiful girl standing now in front of her.
The girl had long, straight black hair, slightly longer than Vanessa's, and was dressed in all black. But it was her bright red eyes that really stood out. Vanessa thought she looked a little pale, but she couldn't quite tell. The mysterious girl looked quite young, maybe only a few years older than herself, thought Vanessa.
"Hey what's up, maybe you are a girl?" the girl asked.
"Yes, yes I am," replied Vanessa.
The girl put out her hand, as if to shake Vanessa's hand, and said, "Nice to eat you!"
Vanessa high fived the girl's hand, and then suddenly realized what she had said.
"Excuse me?" asked Vanessa.
"Oh, I meant to say 'meet'. My 'm' key is broken."
Vanessa wondered how she had said the word "my" if her "m" key was broken, and then decided that she must be crazy. Still, she continued to talk.
"So, how about this weather?" she asked.
Vanessa didn't quite hear the answer, as her eyes were focused on one thing the whole time. She noticed that two of the girl's teeth were very sharp and very long.
"My, what big teeth you have!" exclaimed Vanessa.
"All the better to bite you with!"
Vanessa had heard of people like this. They were vampires. Vampires don't exist, she thought, but she was scared nonetheless.
Vanessa turned and ran as fast as she could in the opposite direction. After a few seconds, she saw the vampire girl appear in front of her.
"How did you get here so fast?" she asked.
Then the girl in front of her turned around, and Vanessa realized it wasn't the same girl. This distraction gave the vampire girl enough time to catch up to Vanessa.
"You thought you could escape?"
"Well, yes," answered Vanessa.
"Well, you can't!"
She grabbed Vanessa, and dragged her back to the park. Vanessa tried with all her might to escape, but her grip was too tight.
"Who are you and what do you want from me?" demanded a very frightened Vanessa.
"I am Dracuella, thirteenth daughter of the late king, Lord Vampiros II!"
"Two?"
"Yes, 'Vampiros' was taken when he tried to register that name."
"And what do you want from me? I asked you a two part question and you only answered one part!"
"Oh, I just think you happen to look very pretty."
"Why, thank you!"
"So, where were we?" asked Dracuella.
"Oh, I believe I was talking about your teeth, and you said something about biting me," answered Vanessa.
"Oh right! I'm a vampire, that's why."
"Please don't bite me!" begged Vanessa. "I don't even know how to find out if a rational function has an oblique asymptote!"
"Oh that's simple," said Dracuella. "You just check if the degree of the numerator is exactly one more than the degree of the denominator!"
"Oh, thanks!"
And with that, Dracuella pulled Vanessa close and sunk her teeth deep into her neck. Blood poured out and dripped down Vanessa's neck as her skin turned pale.
"This is going to be a night you'll never forget," whispered Dracuella.
Dracuella then let go of Vanessa, and let her fall to the ground, accelerating downward at 9.8 m/s².
