“Hello,” comes the polite baritone, permeating through the cold, stale air. The atmosphere is stagnant, old, as if the room has been vacant for countless, long years.
“You do not know me, and I do not know you, yet each of you has been summoned here today for a very special reason…”
The dark stone walls of this ancient castle begin to tremble. Various bits of wall matter being to tumble and trail down from the highest of reaches. The very center of this open foyer, a clear space consisting of nothing but sleek tile, ornately designed with wisps of black and gray.
From around this smooth tile area emerged a bright light, white with a bluish hue. At first it was warm, but then suddenly it became cold, sharply, without warning, as the brightness intensified until a high-pitched ringing faded into existence.
Then everything was quiet, and the designs were glowing, yet not too brightly. There was just enough energy within the tile to illuminate the immediate area around the design itself.
There came a tinkling of bells, faint but present.
“My name is Orelten. I am the current king of Naalherd, the country in which you find yourselves.”
A girl from the shadowed crowd came forward, just enough so that her face gained a faint bit of the central light. The bluish tint reflected off of her deep green irises, and made evident the knowledge in her young eyes. She couldn’t have been more than sixteen, fair yet freckled, with a thin bow by her side in her self-possessed grip.
“You say we are in Naalherd, my lord?” inquired the girl, her face as confident as her stance. “I do not mean to speak out of turn, but by saying this, am I right in assuming that we are in the world known as Miihrgev?”
“Yes,” was the calm reply, the voice coming from all around, with any certain space of its origin remaining undetermined. “Being summoned to this world was my doing.”
The girl fell back a bit, somewhat excited, yet did her best to retain her composure. “No way…” she breathed out, a smile twitching faintly on her lips. “I’ve read about this dimension, this world… This is the largest kingdom in Miihrgev! Naalherd! This is where trans-dimensional magic is said to have originated!”
“Tyndall,” emerged an authoritative tone from the front of the darkened crowd. A tall woman with long, flowing brown hair in a thick braid, stepped forward, the heels of her boots making four echoing clacks. She put a hand on the girl’s thin shoulder.
“Sorry, sister,” the girl named Tyndall responded somewhat quietly, giving the taller female an apologetic look before returning her attention to the rune.
“It is fine,” spoke the sonorous voice. “Curiosity could not hurt with what I am about to present to you.”
All attention was on the glowing rune before them.
“My younger brother has gone missing. He has trifled with magics not meant for him.
“I would like you to find him.”
