Well from the early E3 trailers we knew this game would be saturated with storyline, but unfortunately that story has proven to be way over done for me. Samus, once the ideal female protagonist, has been reduced to a winy bitch who follows some pricks orders to NOT use the weapons that might just stop her from dying. I'm sorry, but the storyline in this game sucks.
However. the gameplay is AMAZING! It feels like classic Metroid, (which I've played thanks to wii virtual console) without feeling outdated. It is just difficult enough. I loved the Prime series, with it's great first person gameplay, but by corruption came around, they all began to feel like the same game. In the end, It's the amazing game play, NOT the storyline that keeps me playing.
Thoughts?

I only played Metroid Prime on GCN, but honestly, it's one of the games where I never paid attention to the storyline (and that's quite rare for me). I was pretty addicted to the gameplay, though.
I don't know if I'd have liked Other M or no, but frankly, I'd rather have Samus stay mysterious and silent.

Right! I swear she sounds like Bella from twilight.

Pretty much. He's also rather useless. He sends you on the most oddball missions and then when you die, all he can say is "RESPOND!"

Right! I swear she sounds like Bella from twilight. The reason that Samus speaks in monotone is that she is not used to showing emotion, or even talking, for that matter. She also fears that showing too much of her personality will make her vulnerable, which is also why she rarely takes her suit off. The reason Bella sounds the way she does is because she is poorly cast. The reasons which lead her to choose to obey that guy in the beginning and not use some basic weapons are as follows: A: She respects the man and his team to a certain degree, and wants to show that she will cooperate with them. B: That team which storms ahead of you blasting assault rifles every which way took out everything which would pose an actual threat to you. There is nothing in that first corridor which could threaten your life. C: After your basic weapons are authorized the reason you cannot use the bomb thing is that it is UNBELIEVABLY DESTRUCTIVE and everybody there wants to keep the ship intact. Snake? SNAKE?! SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!!

I was not referring to the sound of her voice but the way her character is written. She describes adam obsessively. It's not something samus, who's saved the univers umpteen times, should be saying about a commanding officer who treats her like shit essentially.
Okay, very early in the game I can see why it's necessary. But say, the pyrosphere, when you slowly die because you haven't activate your varia suit??? And only because he hasn't said to use it? Samus should be perfectly capable of making those kind of decisions by herself. Shit like that is inexcusable. I would have rather they used the typical plot device of her losing her powers.
I have never played metal gear solid, nor do I profess it to be better than other m. But your point does make me lol. I love intercom calls in games. It is entertaining when you die.
