A separate RP board for (due to lack of a formal term, I'm making one), instance RPs. I think it's been around before, but more open-ended. Like the characters had houses, a formal map was made. This would be more simplistic. Essentially, its our characters in their common lives. One character wants to visit another. A winning tourney combatant goes to check up on his opponent's injuries. Stuff like that. Friendships can develop. Rivalries could be made and settled. Hell, people could sex it up and make babies. Some cases may be Character A is in a town during a high-scale robbery or something and Character B is nearby and the two work together. Or two specific characters wanted to meet (assuming both members agreed to it) and discuss serious issues. It's open-ended and could provide interesting development. And these relationships made could be carried into RPs, tournaments, etc.
Yes? No? Suggestions? Questions? Comments?

I like the idea. I guess whether or not it works is something we'll only be able to find out by trying...

We need this.

I like the idea, but before we rush into it, let's plan it out. How exactly do we want this to look?

My first impression is that it would be a section just for instance RPs, similar to the "Outside the Arena" thing. People would make their instances and whoever is involved posts on the thread.

It's gonna be a pretty huge board, though.

The huger the better.
And if I implied otherwise, by "board" I don't mean another forum specifically for instances. I mean a board like the Entertainment board or the RPGs board.

Precisely what I was meaning. Another forum. I think it'd be better than making a huge section.

We've had like, four different spin-off forums in the past and they all failed wonderfully. It'll be easier, at least for now, just to make a board on ToM for them. Then maybe we could divvy things into sub-boards. Completed things in one board, battles here, extended stories there, I'unno. Can't get it right right off the bat.

I'm not sure we can call them "spin-offs". They were there for different reasons, but definitely not to have a different RP board.
Okay, let's say we do make a separate board. How big will it be? We'll need to know how to organize everything...

Do you mean a board on ToM or another forum? Let's specify the two like that, cause I'm getting confused.

I'm talking about another board inside this forum.

Well I figure it'll be just like the RPGs board, just for instances. If it fills up, we move stuff into sub-boards. It'll function like the Outside the Arena board, where people make their instances and people will join if it's open to anyone and if not, people will know about it.

Hmm. I think it's still better to organize the board instead of waiting for it to fill up in order to make sub-boards.

I guess I just don't see how you organize such a thing when we don't really have much criteria to organize by.

I don't know. We can make an instance RP main board, with boards like city, country-side, etc... and sub-boards with more specific areas.

OK...I can see that. There couldn't be like any pre-set locations, methinks. People would make their own. If the creators built in cities and forests and places, I'd feel like it cuts back on the freedom of an open world.

Okay. How about just making general boards like "city", "outside the city", etc?

Sounds good to me.

Better organize the hierarchy then, and I'll put it all in place.

...what?

Post by killerinstinct on Jun 23, 2010 4:33:45 GMT -5
Main board: name Board 1: name Board 2: name ... etc

Oh, and I also misread that, reading as [me] organize the hierarchy, hence more confusion.

you know, i've been wanting to introduce you guys to a very slowly dyeing forum I have used for a while to try to revive it, but I didn't because I was afraid sd would stir up some shit. the reason I bring this up is because it operates almost exactly in the manner which you describe, in that it has different threads for different areas, instead of different threads for different plots. check it out. enupnion.myfastforum.org/we could possibly base our system around enupnion's system, or try to improve upon their system, or we could just use enupnion for most of our roleplaying needs. the place already has plenty of people, and it won't die out for a while if we join them, but I know if we start it something like this in our forum it might not last too long. p.s. if you plan on introducing a character, use the thread called "trog's tavern".

Probably not needed. Because as you said:
Aaaaaand...
Trying to integrate into another forum is usually always a bad idea. And maybe it's me, just I wouldn't take too kindly to a bunch of people who are all tight with each other and no one here knows drop in with their own shit and poke at the differences in our RPing styles. It's happened to me before. Not pleasant.
A problem I foresee is trying to integrate, which I already said would be difficult and unfavorable. There seem to be plenty of RPs on part ten and up, meaning we'd have to either read them all or start our own which would likely only be posted on by us.
And you know it won't last long if we start it here? That's inspiring. Never stopped us before.

quote warfare, is it?
their forum isn't quite as tightly knit as ours. sure, they do have people who have been around since the start and have other regulars, but people drop in all the time with new styles that are usually integrated flawlessly into their board. they like new people.
this is one of the good parts of the system- if you want to start an rp you don't have to go through the hassle of pming everyone to get participation. you can just walk up to somebodies' character and lead the character into a roleplaying scenario. the people at this board will almost always go with you if you confront their characters. roleplaying scenarios are unbelievably easy to start in this system and participation is rarely a problem.
sorry about that. I didn't mean that as an insult.
plus, i'm not saying you have to or anything. you're acting like i'm forcing the concept of integrating to enupnion down your throat. the main reason I gave you the link so you could look at it and help the process of making ours. I hoped that some of you would join, but I never had any real expectation for you to. long story short, I just wanted you to look at it to help some of your ideas.
just click the link and fucking. look. at. it.

First of all, chill.
Second, "quote warfare"...no. I just wanted to not post a lot of remarks without specifying what I was talking about.
Maybe I'm just a bitch, but I'm not raging out on you. I'm discussing/arguing the praticality. It's not a hard thing to do (make a couple boards and a new places) and we've already figured it out mostly. You were just trying to recruit some new folks.
And I did. Calm your ass down.
