So, I'm getting back into film stuff and I looking for a new editing software. I have Adobe Premiere Elements (6.0?) but I really don't like it. Any suggestions of personal favorites or something you know works really well would be appreciated.

I've been using Windows Movie Maker for years, so I'm a beast with it, but the top choice, IMHO, is Sony Vegas 8. You could probably get a cracked version, or pay the $800 for it. (My drama teacher is actually getting me a free version from his daughter, who works in video editing and stuff of the like.)

I hate Vegas, and Windows Movie Maker sucks like you wouldn't believe. Final Cut Pro is the industry standard for a reason, although the latest version of Premiere Pro is essentially a clone of it.

Well, Vegas is still my choice, even if it's a bitch to use at first. With proper instruction you can get a lot done.
I have heard good things about Final Cut Pro, though.

I prefer the separated clip and sequence monitors, rather than combining it. Final Cut's great on multiple monitors. Vegas just doesn't seem nearly as advanced as FCP or Premiere, especially if you combine them with Motion/Shake or After Effects.
