Sunday, April 18th, 2010;
So I haven't written in this thing for a long time now. Yeesh. So much has been going on.
In short, I'm a first year student in Psychology, with Law as a minor (which I'll be dropping next year, if all goes well). Yeah, I was doing something else last year, but since I didn't like it, I switched.
So I have exams now. I had two yesterday, actually. Yes, two exams on a saturday. And each lasted for 3 hours. And to top it off, they were law subjects. *shudders* At least I'm finished with them. I just hope I'll get decent grades.
So now I have a week of holiday. Well, "holiday" is what it's officially called; it's actually a week of studying, because the week after, I have... *counts*... four exams. Yay >_> But hey, I'll be done with uni after! w00t!
So I was thinking. I could be monitored when I go online. I mean, it's not like it's new information to me; I know that very well. But... just imagine. Think about it. They could see what kind of porn you watch They could know so much about you just based on the sites you go to. Scary, huh?

Yeah...don't hold me to this, but I'm sure intelligence agencies have people specifically for profiling people based on things like websites visited along with loads of other details you didn't hand out. :/

But that "everything" is a generalized profile based on, in this case, what websites you visit. It's more like they know your interests than what's going on inside your head.

Yeah, I know, Alex. I'm not gonna be paranoid and stop using everything, but it's just bothersome when I think about it >_> But that "everything" is a generalized profile based on, in this case, what websites you visit. It's more like they know your interests than what's going on inside your head. They might not know what's going on exactly in your head, but based on your interests, they can have a pretty rough idea about your personality. Are we moving into complacent acceptance of an injustice that we have little proof, or even evidence, exists? I wouldn't say we don't have proof. If such an "injustice" doesn't exist, then how come internet pirates get caught? And I have an example that shows that everything is monitored, a story my English prof told us. |

I suppose it depends on your jurisdiction. Pirates getting caught isn't evidence that everything is monitored at all though. Some may be found through monitoring of P2P networks, others may be found by, say, bragging on a forum about a new Star Trek torrent they created.
And what about the complacent acceptance part? Fight back! This is a democracy!

Then how about when the police comes up with a conversation you had on MSN in order to prove who's at fault. It's what happened with my English prof's kid; he had an argument with someone, and the next day, in front of school, they had a fight. The police got involved, and had brought a copy of the conversation in order to settle the problem.
And why is it complacent acceptance? What do you suggest to do in order to change things?

Again, it would vary on your jurisdiction. Where's that professor from? Most countries don't even have the required infrastructure to monitor to that extent, and in most developed nations, like the US, they'd first require a warrant from a judge to get that information from the ISP or use it as evidence. What if the one he'd had an argument with provided the conversation, or perhaps his parents did, in order to win?
It's complacent acceptance because you accepted it complacently

By the way, Daryl, it's a late response, but I want to say that I'm not too complacent about this fact, and if there is anything I could do to change it, I would do it.

So I'm done with my exams and am officially on holidays. I went over to my uncle's house for the weekend (which is why I wasn't online), and it was fun... except for the five hours of wait we had on saturday in a hospital, because my dear uncle hurt his leg pretty badly and needed stitching.

Yes, sleep is good. Especially after you spent (almost) a whole night with a bunch of friends, fooling around and stuff.
Well, things are pretty cool. I'm hanging out with people, partying, hanging out with more people, sleeping, and just relaxing and not doing anything productive at all. Oh, and I watched Fight Club. God I LOVED that movie. I'm gonna watch it again. Oh, and I should be getting my results soon. Probably tomorrow or something. They were supposed to be posted today, buuuuut nothing. So yeah. How about you?

Got two wisdom teeth removed, will probably remove the other two next week. Half my mouth is still numb, been constantly spitting out blood all day... and the pain is starting. It'll probably get worse, too >_> Meep.

Sunday, july 25th;
Oh Lord. I only slept for like a couple of hours. I woke up at the sound of a man yelling in the house. I got scared, I thought someone was getting killed or something. Turns out my brother showed up at 5 AM to talk about something with my father, and it went really badly, ending up with both of them yelling, my father nearly beating my brother (only to be stopped by his wife), and my brother grabbing my father's laptop and breaking it. Man... I'm still pretty shaken up. Guess I'll have to function on a couple of hours of sleep today.
