I saw saw something that has been bugging me for a while, the statement that war is good for absolutely nothing. and that is........A LOAD OF BULLCRAP. well for us in the US anyway.
1. if it wasn't for WW2 we wouldn't have gotten out of the great depression as soon as we did.
2. If it wasn't for the multiple arms races we've been in we wouldn't have a lot of the things we have today as civilians because many things we have were developed by the MILITARY during an arms race or war.
3. During wartime or anything else here in the US we make more advancements in technology than we would usually do otherwise.
These statements prove that the statement of 'war is good for absolutely nothing' false

War is good for business. That has never been debated.

War is good for death, so that contradicts absolute statements like the latter.

so statements like "it's good for absolutely nothing" just shows how ignorant the speaker is, considering absolutes apply to almost nothing.

War served well for you Americans, and for other developped countries.
But look at what war served us Middle Easterners.
Look at what war served the countries in northern Africa (Algeria, for example; when it was occupied by France and was demanding independence, a war broke out, leaving the country, already fragile, in terrible poverty. Yes, you may tell me the few cities that are so well developped in Algeria, but it's just those cities; the rest of the country is poor).
War may helped certain countries develop, but it also made others go into a worse situation.

I am chilled, I have been planning to make a post like this for a while but I never got around to it. and as for what ki says I wil not deny what she says or claim it to be false, but this is mostly about how absolutes bug me, the fact that war is the subject is coincidence

Well there's nothing really absolute, but it's probably used as a way to exaggerate things and to emphasize on the bad side of it (especially since war has more bad points than good ones).

I would assume that is the reason why they use absolutes

I, for one, would rather have inferior technology than a dead family. Maybe that's just me...

even if you don't want it, war will happen. Peace is a delusion for the idealistic for humans will always have ambitions and grudges which will lead to war. I think the movie Gundam Wing Endless Waltz says it best as. "History is much like an endless waltz. The three beats of War, Peace and Revolution continue on forever."

War can be avoided. It may not be an achievable goal now, but eventually. It's been shown that the world is becoming more and more peaceful compared to the past (and has been becoming so for quite some time), and this trend should continue, especially as the rest of the world develops, more countries move towards Democracy, and HDI ratings rise.

even if we move towards democracy you know there will always be that one nutjob that comes into power and works to become the next adolf hitler and throw it all out of whack. of course the UN will just be like "you better stop or we will send you a letter telling you how angry we are and how we disapprove of your actions." and chances are nobody will take action until it's too late.

Just because war happens doesn't mean it's good. Who in their right mind says 'War? Whee!'

Doesn't mean we have to do it for the little good it does to some countries.
